content description

The Balcones Texas Rye 100 Proof is a 100% rye whiskey brought to us from the amazing Balcones distillery. This whisky is twice pot-distilled and aged in new charred American oak. Balcones also calls out that their ryes are made from 80 percent raw Elbon rye from north and northwest Texas, including some Crystal, Chocolate and Roasted rye varieties. Non-chill filtered and aged just under two years, this product is matured in new American oak barrels and diluted to 50% ABV with Hill Country spring water. No additives used including colour or flavour. This is a permanent addition to their spirits portfolio. The average price for this bottle is around $50.

On the nose: lots of chocolate notes! Dark chocolate, cinnamon apple pie and vanilla. In the back you'll get some cherries and spiciness.

On the palate: the palate is big and bittersweet. It starts off with sweet cereal notes, bitter dark chocolate, espresso and tobacco. In the back there's spiciness, cherries, toffee and vanilla.

Finish: medium length, warm and spicy! Cinnamon, ginger, white pepper and, in the back, cherries and oak.

Overall: a very decent whiskey from Balcones; wonderfully balanced with rich flavours and an attractive price tag. This expression has everything you could ask for in a Rye whiskey.
