Aberlour Casg Annamh: young and oaky.
The first release in Aberlour's Casg Annamh series! This expression (named after the Gaelic for "rare cask") is matured in a trio of cask types, including Spanish oak Oloroso Sherry butts and two sorts of American oak cask. The Casg Annamh is non-chill filtered and bottled at 48% ABV with no artificial colouring added. The average price of this bottle is around $60.
Nose: young and fresh, with apple, caramel, candy cane, and pear, as well as raisins, honey, lemon peel and sour peach candy.
Palate: noticeably young, but there's a good amount of oak there as well. First some sweetness with marzipan and honey, but then quite spicy, with lots of pepper and cloves, as well as a hint of mint.
Finish: lingering cherry aroma and spices.
Overall: Not great. It's very young and woody. Buy the fantastic Aberlour A'Bunadh instead.
